Questions

Questions people ask us

Do I have to be an athlete to come in?

No. Many people who come in run on weekends, lift a few mornings a week or play in a rec league. If you are active or want to be, you are who we plan sessions for.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a small pinch as a needle goes in, or a dull ache or heaviness at the point. Needles are very thin. Tell your acupuncturist what you feel, and they will adjust.

How is this different from dry needling at my physical therapist's?

Dry needling is a technique some physical therapists use. Acupuncture is practiced by licensed acupuncturists, with its own training and its own state license. We do not rank them. Many people see both, and we are glad to hear what your physical therapist has asked of you.

Should I book before or after an event?

Many people book a few days ahead, or a few days after, and keep race week simple. Tell us the date when you book and we plan the session with you.

Are the needles clean?

Yes. Every needle is sterile, comes in its own package, and is used once and then discarded. We clean our hands and your skin before we begin.

Will I have to stop my medicine?

No. Keep taking what your prescriber has told you to take, and tell us everything you take, including supplements, so we can plan around it.

Your visit

More about your visit

What should I wear and eat?

Shorts and a loose top, or sleeves that roll up. Have a light meal an hour or two before. Do not come on an empty stomach.

Can I come if I am pregnant?

Tell us when you book. Some points and techniques are avoided in pregnancy, and your acupuncturist plans around that.

Does insurance cover it?

Some plans include an acupuncture benefit. We check yours before your first visit and tell you what we find. See how fees work for the details.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Many plans allow it. Ask your plan administrator before you book.

What does acupuncture not do, and when should I see a doctor instead?

It does not replace a doctor or a physical therapist. If something has changed suddenly, or a sore spot is getting worse, see a doctor first. In an emergency, call 911.

Still have a question?

Call us, or send a message. We reply in the order we get them.
